Among the celebrity judges were comedian Charlie Higson, television and Absolute Radio (formerly Virgin Radio) presenter Sarah Champion, soap actress Lucy Evans and Remington's Grooming Guru Steven Goldsworthy.

Warming up the 250 strong crowd, Remington ran through their unique Flex Facial Workout designed exclusively by Remington to firm up those frown lines, tone up that turtle neck and get TacheBackers ready to parade their Tache down the catwalk.

London painter Stephen Murphy was voted as 'Top Tache 2008' after he wowed judges with his winning wrestlers outfit and curled tache. John Desbois AKA Fantana came a close second.

Stephen said "I came here to win, there was no coming second. It means the world," he said. "It's been a month of growing and the idea was to go big. Big sacrifices, big curls, big tache'. I promised my girlfriend I would shave it off tonight, but I've grown attached to it, maybe I'll keep it another week?"

Judge Steven Goldsworthy said: "I was most impressed with the enthusiasm and passion shown on the catwalk as well as the dedication and high caliber of moustaches that have obviously been groomed to perfection. It was a tough decision as they all did such a fantastic job and all for such a great charity."

The evening, at Rileys Pool Hall in Victoria, ended with a mass Remington shave-off to celebrate the end of TacheBack which hopes to raise an amazing £300,000 for prostate and testicular cancer research.

Finale Party '07

Paul Rowbottom

Last year we saluted Paul Rowbottom who won the "Best Tache of 2007" cup after a hotly contested Tache-off on the catwalk. Paul said "A friend of mine told me about TacheBack and I thought it sounded like a great idea. I promised that I would shave it off at the finale party, so as soon as I was crowned the winner, I gave it the chop! I might be persuaded to grow it back for next year's TacheBack though, it was great fun!" Paul has raised over £400 through sponsorship from friends, family and members of his local dads group.

Lewis Fleming, a 30-year-old interactive designer from Wroughton, took second place. He said "I've been getting funny looks for a whole month now but it's been worth it. Not only have I managed to raise some money for a good cause, it was great fun fighting Tache-to-Tache and coming runner up. It was a great surprise!" Lewis has raised over £100 to fund research into male cancer through sponsorship from friends and family.

A star studded judging panel presided over the proceedings, including The Fast Show's Charlie Higson, beauty queen and model, Jade Eden and footballer Craig Easton.

Paul won a £250 spending spree at Topman and tickets to see indie girl band, The Pipettes, in concert in Brighton. Lewis won an Everyman Shaver and dinner for two, courtesy of Fullers.

Everyman's TacheBack Campaign Manager, Sarah Healy said "I was so proud of all the guys who have put so much effort and enthusiasm into Tache growing. Between them all we're hoping they've raised around £200,000 to fund vital research into prostate and testicular cancer and they've been having a fun time in the process.

As it turned out, the total raised in 2007 was an amazing £230,000.

TacheBackers we thank you. We salute you. We love you!
